A Short Story About Me and My Husband

I first met my husband at May 2014, when we both were co-assistants at the same department. He was my senior, and was one of the most memorable person, because he’s got a cute and chubby cheek (my favorite feature of him), with those eyes, kind of reminded me of Panda. I still remember that he was a nice person, a little shy, and not a talkative one. We actually didn’t meet often. We ever had several night shifts together, but that’s all. Nothing was special or out of ordinary. Our relationship were just like other senior and junior. After Ob-Gyn department, we never met again. We didn’t even keep in touch.

On December 2015 when I just finished my study, I received a friend request from him on Facebook. I had nothing on my mind that time, just thinking that he was an old friend, just adding random person he knew on Facebook, so I accepted his friend request. On Christmas Eve, he sent me a message via Facebook messenger, and I happened to be online that night. So I replied his message. And that’s when it all began. We started to keep in touch, and getting to know each other online. He was taking his internship in Pohuwato, Gorontalo, while I was in Manado still planning on my internship destination that time. So, I finally got Tomohon as my destination, and our conversation was getting more intense each day. He often called me to ask how I was doing and other stuffs.

On July 2016 after getting to know each other better for 7 months, he finally asked me to be his girlfriend. I had been waiting like forever for him to ask me. I didn’t know what took him so long. What I love so much about him is that he’s always serious when it comes to relationship, and he told me that if he asked me to his girlfriend, he wanted our relationship to last until marriage. So I said yes.
So, we started our relationship. I learned a lot of things being in a relationship with him. Mostly I learned about his family and himself better. I could feel the love for him was growing deeper each day. Just because we both agree to be serious in our relationship, it doesn’t simply mean that we never had fights or problems. We had a lot of big fights, and we almost broke up many times, even after our engagement (once). But I thank God that we didn’t break up, and never break up. God has an amazing way of healing our anger and negative thoughts or feelings toward each other.

On December 2018, he gave me a ring, and asked me to marry him, and I happily said yes. I mean I had been waiting all my life to be proposed by the man that I want to marry. It was an easy “Yes”.
Next on 2019 we both were busy preparing for our big day, the day, our Wedding Day. On May 2019, we both and his big family flew to Jayapura (where my parents live) to talk officially about our plan to get married, also to pray together for the plan. I was so happy God made the perfect time for us (even when I was so busy that time) to go to Jayapura.
Shortly after we were back to Manado, we started preparing everything for our Wedding, including picking the day for our Wedding. So it was set to 23rd November 2019, the same day as my grandmother’s birthday. Preparing for Wedding was a great, unforgettable experience in my life. It was exciting, thrilling, and tiring. I couldn’t wait to be on the day I marry my best friend, my boyfriend, my fiancĂ©.

On 23rd November 2019, finally we make it. God finally unites us in a Holy Matrimony at church. The day is so sunny and bright. Everybody (our family, photographer, and event organizer team) is all healthy and happy. We both are in great shape, also fit and healthy. Everything runs well and smoothly from the morning until midnight, even our first night (being as husband and wife) also run pretty well (and a little awkward).

We actually didn't get the chance to have a proper honeymoon after that, because I had to go back to continue my study after 2 months having a break from school, but I believe that everything has its time (including our proper honeymoon). Looking back to our journey from stranger to being in 3 years relationship to getting married, I couldn’t be more thankful and happier than I am now. I got married with the man of my choice, and I believe that he is the one that God led me to. He is the one God wants me to marry. I thank God that He has made us one. I am looking forward to our next forever-to-go journey.
